You've Come a Long Mode, Baby is the second studio album by Fatboy Slim, a project of English language electronic music producer Norman Cook. It was first released on 19 Oct 1998 in the U.k. past Skint Records and a mean solar day later in the United States by Astralwerks. Cook recorded and produced the album at his home studio in Brighton, known as the Firm of Love,[two] [3] using an Atari ST calculator, Creator software, and floppy disks.[4] The photo on the album comprehend was originally taken at the 1983 Fat Peoples Festival in Danville, Virginia; for the North American release, the album cover was inverse to an image of shelves stacked with records.
You've Come a Long Way, Baby proved to be Cook's global breakthrough album,[2] peaking at number one on the UK Albums Chart and number 34 on the US Billboard 200.[5] Praised by critics for its audio and style, the album brought international attention to Cook, earning him a Brit Award in 1999,[6] and was later certified 4 times platinum by the BPI and platinum by the RIAA. Four singles were released from the album: "The Rockafeller Skank", "Gangster Tripping", "Praise You", and "Right Here, Right Now", all of which peaked within the acme 10 on the UK Singles Nautical chart.[vii] "Build It Upward – Tear It Down" was also released as a promotional single.[ citation needed ]
Title and artwork [edit]
The title Yous've Come a Long Way, Baby was derived from a marketing slogan for Virginia Slims cigarettes.[8] The previously released "The Rockafeller Skank" unmarried liner notes revealed that a once tentative title for the anthology had been Let's Hear Information technology for the Little Guy. Conceived by Ruby-red Design, the album's main cover art features an obese swain dressed in a T-shirt bearing the words "I'm #1 so why try harder" while property a cigarette in his left manus.[9] [10] The original photo was taken at the 1983 Fatty People'southward Festival in Danville, Virginia and provided by the Rex Features photo library.[eleven] Despite a series of inquiries, the human being has not been identified.[12] Boosted photography for the You've Come up a Long Way, Baby liner notes was provided by Simon Thornton.[9] The cover prototype was inverse in North America to an prototype of shelves stacked with records.

You've Come a Long Way, Baby received critical acclaim.[22] According to Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic, it "came damn shut to being the definitive large beat anthology... a seamless record, filled with great imagination, unexpected twists and turns, huge hooks, and bully beats."[1] In 2000, the album was ranked number 81 in Q magazine's readers' poll of the "100 Greatest British Albums Ever".[23] The anthology was as well included in the book 1001 Albums Y'all Must Hear Earlier Yous Dice.[24]
In 1999, it was certified 3× platinum past the British Phonographic Manufacture (BPI), three×Platinum by the Australian Record Industry Association[25] and platinum by the Recording Industry Clan of America (RIAA).
